Dr. Hussain is the President and leading consultant at Nephrology Associates of Greater Houston, PLLC.
With more than 18 years of experience in the field of Nephrology under his belt, he has dedicated his life to caring for patients of kidney disease.
After graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree from Dow Medical College in 1994, Dr. Hussain completed his residency at the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY, followed by two years of Nephrology Fellowship and a year of Kidney Transplant Fellowship Training at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), WI.
Currently, Dr. Hussain is affiliated with several hospitals in the Greater Houston areas, and is an active member of:
- American Society of Nephrology (ASN)
- American Society of Transplant (AST)
- National Kidney Foundation (NKP)
- International Society of Nephrology (ISN)
- Renal Physician Association (RPA)
- Pakistan Society of Nephrology (PSN).
Dr. Hussain’s passion is to provide the best care possible for patients with kidney disease. He treats a variety of nephrological issues including acute and chronic kidney diseases, kidney stones, hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, in center and home dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and diabetic kidney disease. He is formally trained in dealing with patients requiring Kidney Transplantation, and offers a holistic and compassionate approach in treating all his patients, regardless of the stage or intensity of disease.
Dr. Hussain has worked tirelessly towards the improvement of healthcare communities and patients’ lives in Pakistan and the USA. His contributions as a senior consultant, educator, and mentor continue to make an impressive impact within the healthcare community.

USA:
- Worked as Faculty member at Medical College of Wisconsin and Zablocki Veterans Affair Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.
- Introduced the Renal Transplant Program at VAMC, in addition to implementing CRRT at VAMC.
- Introduced the Citrate based Anticoagulation protocol for CRRT at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.
- Worked as an Associate at Nephrology Associates of Lexington, KY, serving the Bluegrass Community
- Recipient of “Best Teaching Service for Academic year 2003 & 2004” in the Division of Nephrology at Medical College of Wisconsin
- Active in intern and fellowship selection committees at MCW
Pakistan:
- Headed the Nephrology Department at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi
- Pioneered the Kidney Transplant Program at AKUH
- Active in designing core skills programs at AKUH
He also holds a Masters in Science in Epidemiology, and is a published author of many peer reviewed papers, having conducted many clinical trials in the role of Primary Investigator.
He has contributed a chapter as an author in the esteemed “Textbook on Renal Transplantation.”
Additionally, he has served on many committees and been an invited guest speaker for many conferences.
In his spare time, Dr. Hussain loves to spend time with his family. He enjoys biking, hiking, and fishing, and remains involved in many community service projects when needed.
